Big new regatta plans

It seems that the regatta organisers (or someone) have told the maire of Varen that the launching facilities are inadequate. Consequently almost immediately following the 2016 event heavy plant moved in and ripped up the slipway. They then changed the direction of the slope through 90° and excavated a spanking new "embarcation". To accommodate the expected influx of vehicles next year a large hard-core parking area has been created.

It may be of course that it is unrelated to the regatta, but no explanation has reached us yet.
