that tobacco is still grown in south west France? Those of us with old barns, sometimes attics, are familiar with the bundles of twine still hanging from the beams, which are a testimony to the former widespread tobacco production in this area. But the decline in tobacco use has meant that Daniel Gasparini has the only plantation left in the region, in Haute Garonne. This is now a "bio" operation (organic) with use of pesticides etc kept to a minimum. The finished product is exported to north Africa where it is smoked in "nargileh" or America where there is a market for organic cigarettes.
There seems to be a ironic disconnect between growing a deadly substance organically. But M Gasparini doesn't seem to see it.
